Simple Commenter 1.10: Email Notifications & 3rd Party Integrations

Update 1.10: What's New

Simple Commenter Version 1.10 is now available, marking a significant step forward in client communication and workflow automation. This update introduces a powerful email notification system and streamlined methods for client access.

Trello Integration

A new integration with Trello is now available, designed to streamline project management and task tracking. Comments from Simple Commenter can be sent directly to a designated Trello board, automatically creating a new card for each piece of feedback. To support this and improve overall clarity, the following enhancements have also been introduced:

  • Comment Numbering: Each comment is now assigned a unique, sequential number (e.g., #1, #2, #3). This provides a clear identifier for tracking feedback, both within Simple Commenter and in Trello.
  • Comment Titles: Comments can now be given an optional title. When a comment is sent to Trello, this title is used for the Trello card, making it easy to understand the task at a glance.
  • Full Context Sync: The integration supports sending both screenshots and replies. Any screenshot attached to a comment will be uploaded to the Trello card, and subsequent replies will be added as comments to that card, keeping the full conversation in one place.

Please note that the integration is currently one-way, from Simple Commenter to Trello. Updates made within Trello will not be reflected back in Simple Commenter.

How to Set Up the Trello Integration

To connect your Trello board, you will need to add the Simple Commenter Power-Up to your Trello workspace. When prompted during the setup process, use the following information:

  • Power-Up or Integration: Simple Commenter
  • Workspace: Simple Commenter Workspace
  • Iframe connector URL: https://www.simplecommenter.com/
  • Email: aleksander@ander.ee
  • Support contact: aleksander@ander.ee
  • Author: Simple Commenter

Automated Client Login via URL

Two new methods are available to provide clients with seamless, one-click access to projects.

  • URL Parameter Login: You can now add a client's email directly to a URL using the ?email= parameter (e.g., https://your-site.com?email=client@email.com).
    • If the email address is registered to a client in Simple Commenter, the client will be automatically logged in. This feature is active when "Token Access" is disabled.
    • If the email address is not registered, the email is still captured for the comment session, and the user's name will default to "client".
  • Copy Client-Specific URL: The dashboard now includes an option to copy a unique, pre-generated URL for each client. Sending this link to a client allows them to be automatically authenticated and logged in when they open it.

Introducing Email Notifications

A comprehensive email notification system has been implemented to keep all stakeholders informed of project activity. To receive emails, clients must be signed in. Client Notifications: A client will receive an email when:

  • Their comment is marked as 'Resolved'.
  • A reply is made to their comment, which is perfect for asking follow-up questions.

Admin & Team Member Notifications: An admin or team member will receive an email for:

  • New comments were made on a page (excluding their comments).
  • New replies made to existing comment threads (excluding their replies).
  • Replies are made directly to a comment thread in which they have participated.

Granular Notification Controls

Control over email notifications has been added to the account settings for all user types.

  • For Clients: Clients have the ability to opt out of receiving email updates.
  • For Admins & Team Members: Under Account Settings, team members can now:
    • Opt out of all email notifications entirely.
    • Opt out of notifications on a per-domain basis. This allows team members to follow specific projects without being notified about others.

Action Required for Existing Clients

For privacy and to ensure consent, all clients added before this update have been opted-out of email notifications by default. To enable email notifications for them, they must be removed and added again. This action will register their consent and opt them into the new notification system.
